Degree Programs

We offer accredited degree pathways for both aspiring midwives and established professionals.

Undergraduate Student Application

The BSM program provides the essential foundation for those seeking a career in community midwifery. Meeting—and exceeding—the comprehensive standards of the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC), the BSM focuses on building expert technical skills, clinical competency, evidence-informed practice, and critical thinking.

  • For New Students: The BSM provides the preparation needed to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), which is the national credential provided by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).
  • For Current CPMs: Our CPM-to-BSM track recognizes prior learning and professional experience, offering an accredited degree that expands professional knowledge, strengthens leadership, increases educational opportunities, and provides a pathway to licensure in some states.

Graduate Student Application

Our MSM degree is the ultimate expression of dedication to elevating the profession, moving beyond licensure to genuine academic and professional mastery. This graduate program provides the critical coursework necessary for scholarly growth and leadership across four essential areas of distinction:

  1. Midwifery Research: Generating new, evidence-based knowledge.
  2. Midwifery Policy: Influencing legislation and standards of care.
  3. Midwifery Outreach: Expanding access and equity in underserved communities.
  4. Midwifery Education: Preparing the next generation of expert practitioners and midwifery leaders.
 
Please use the following application to apply for the Master of Science in Midwifery (MSM) program. If you are applying with the portfolio process make sure you have completed your portfolio using the Graduate Portfolio Guidelines prior to applying.

Continuing Education

Our virtual doors are open to lifelong learners seeking to advance their midwifery or birth professional practice. Access our Bachelor or Master-level courses without a degree commitment, attain CEUs for recertification, or pursue specialized credentials through our Childbirth Education certification or our Birth & Postpartum Doula certification (offered in partnership with Birth Learning).

Yes. The undergraduate application fee is $65 and the graduate application fee is $75

Yes. MCU accepts transfer credits from accredited institutions. 

  • Upon acceptance into the undergraduate program, the student will submit a form requesting transfer credit equivalency to Admissions for review and evaluation to determine if the student has any courses that might be accepted as transfer credit.
  • Upon acceptance into the graduate program, the Dean of Graduate Studies will evaluate the student’s post-secondary transcripts carefully to determine which courses, if any, might be equivalent to MCU courses.
  • The evaluation of credit for transfer is based upon a thorough assessment of course equivalency, evaluation of transcripts, and the accreditation status of the awarding institution.
  • MCU will accept credits from other institutions accredited by a US Department of Education recognized accrediting agency.
  • Transfer credits must have a C grade or above and/or meet grades required for midwifery core courses.
  • MCU follows a trimester format and credits transferred from quarter systems will be reduced in value accordingly.
  • To be granted an MCU degree, students must complete at least 50% of the total credits required for the program through MCU.
  • The student will be notified of all equivalent courses that are being transferred for credit.
  1. You will receive an official acceptance notice via email.
  2. You must complete your Enrollment Agreement and enrollment packet by the specified deadline.
  3. You must submit a payment for the Acceptance Processing Fee.
  4. You will get registered and work with the Registrar to create your Major Map
  5. You will submit the Financial Agreement by the specified deadline and work with Financial Aid (if applicable).
  6. You will participate in required orientation(s).
  7. You will prepare for courses and your first day of school as an MCU student!
